After he's wandered around enough, Sensei decides to go back to Ami to finally spend some time with her. He appreciates how Sara played the role of a temporary mother for her, but it reminds him that he already had someone else to fill that role and how he struggles to accept her support.
Sensei joins, Maki, Haruka, and Yuki, and after some idle chatter and encouragement from Maki, Sara and Ami are finally done. Everyone else is surprised to see that Ami's hair is very short now, but Sara explains that while she could've kept it a bit longer, it made more sense to cut her hair like this and let it regrow from scratch. Ami promises to let it grow back since Sensei likes long hair more, but Sensei cuts her off, stating that he loves her regardless of her hair length. With her work done, Sara releases Ami and lets her finally be with her uncle.
Both take a long walk while Ami fills Sensei in on what she and Sara were talking about, which makes him realize that he has to do something to quell Ami's feelings for him, especially with the role he intends to take in her life, and further her personal growth, something he has tried and failed to achieve for a while.
As they take a seat on a rock, Ami asks if he believes in God. He asks her the same, and she confirms it, believing that while she isn't sure if He's constantly watching them, she knows He's exists, constantly testing their worthiness. Sensei, however, isn't sure if He exists, as he wants to believe He doesn't but has reevaluated his beliefs recently.
When Ami feels like their respective opinions might change some day, Sensei uses this to ask if she feels comfortable with him changing his role form her uncle to her father. However, Ami doesn't see this as a change since she already sees him as her father, though when she explains her reason as to why she sees him as one, it makes Sensei uncomfortable due to what Ami seems to know about his past and her other feelings for him.
Moving on from this, Ami wonders if she can finally call him dad now, and Sensei is fine with it. As Ami's thoughts of him being her father take another weird turn, Sensei decides they should return to the camp.
