As evening falls, Sensei sits down by the campfire with Haruka. The two talk about Sensei's relationship with Ami and how he should acknowledge that both make mistakes and have to support each other. She also mentions Sensei's personal and mental situation, specifically how he practically became a hermit, and suggests to improve his way of living.
Sensei ponders on why people become teachers, noting that he became one not for the reasons other teachers like Imani have. Haruka still wants to know what his initial motivation was, and he assumes it was to prevent his students from ending up as confused by life as he is – There a certain norms people have to follow, but some want to be different without being seen as "not normal" yet don't know how, and Sensei wants to use his life experiences to help those that are struggling with their lives. Hearing his explanation, Haruka feels like she can understand him a bit better now and feels like him not being "normal" is the reason why people like Rin and her are gravitating towards him.
Sensei doesn't believe that Haruka didn't have a normal life growing up, and she confirms she had one, though it didn't make her "normal" as she still ended up with character flaws she can't hide or stop. She also tells Sensei that she had the dream of owning her own cafe from an early age and was committed to that dream after a school project where she had to develop an entire business plan, though she gave it the name Koi Cafe years later when she was reworking her initial plans. Sensei assumes koi is a reference to a Japanese kanji meaning "love", but she reveals it's a reference to the fish as they are usually associated with qualities she lacks, and she hopes by using it she can delude herself into thinking she does have those attributes.
Haruka uses this story to give Sensei advice on getting his life back on track and encourages him to see his role as a teacher and the impact he has on his girls in a more positive way. Sensei thanks her and compliments Haruka, which visibly flatters her. Both spend some time relaxing with coffee before going their separate ways.
