Sensei is on his way back from the store, a task he started to appreciate over the time he had to do it, but this time he feels less enthusiastic about it due to having to buy a certain item for Ami, which serves as a reminder on how he fails as her guardian.
Back home, he notices how his memories are slowly coming back due to a certain pink-haired girl in his live, though as he can see that she's currently in his home due to her shoes standing next to the entrance, he wishes she would respect his wishes more. Niki appears in front of him and starts to joke about their recent conversation, but Sensei yells at her for getting involved in affairs she wasn't supposed to, but Niki gets rightfully furious due to being yelled at, informs him that Ami is currently sleeping as she brought her to bed a moment ago and how Ami herself asked for her help since she feared that Sensei wouldn't be up to the task. She quickly calms down when Sensei apologizes for lashing out at her and implores him to let her help him, because Ami needs a woman to take care of certain needs, most of which he never learned, and he needs someone to support him if he wants Ami to recover.
Niki asks him to sit down on the couch while she makes some tea, and Sensei wonders why Ami reached out to Niki instead to one of her friends, and a voice in his head reminds him why she did – Because both of them are missing a certain someone, and Niki is the closest person who can fill her place.
Niki takes a seat next to him and implores him to open up about anything, and Sensei confesses how he doesn't want to be a father, how everyone knows that he would be a terrible one, and how has to become one for Ami and yet fails so hard that he's dragging others into his mess. Niki assures him that she does this out of her own volition and, while she shares his sentiments about parenthood, sometimes people like them have to step up to task and learn the necessary steps along the way, but Sensei just feels like a failure as Chika and even Kaori can do it so effortlessly while he struggles with everything.
He begs her for advice on how he can get out of this, but Niki tells him that this option is long gone since he basically became her father and has to be one for the rest of his life, even if Ami will leave the nest one day. Therefore, he should try to get someone who can take the role as her surrogate mother so Ami can have a full family life again and volunteers to take this role by asking to move in. Wanting to do this by himself, he tries to resist the idea at first, but Niki won't budge on this as she genuinely wants to help both of them, and when he doesn't want to sabotage her career and life with his struggling home life, she assures him that those things won't hinder her and, if anything, she's willing and able to abandon her career if it means helping him.
After Ami passes them by to use the bathroom, Sensei relents and agrees to talk with Ami about her moving in.
