Synopsis

After walking in silence for a while, Sensei decides to address what just happened, but Otoha tries to avoid it. She finally breaks and criticizes him for claiming he has nothing in his life while having a close relationship with Niki and also blames him for scaring her so much with their showcase of affection that she will remember it every time she comes to the basement, but when Sensei reminds her that nothing stopped her from leaving outside of her own curiosity, she shuts up quickly. He also wants to know who she was more interested in, and she immediately names Niki, pointing out that if she was interested in him, that night at the hotel would've ended very differently.

The discussion exhausts Otoha, but Sensei is happy to know both are working towards the same end goal, but she denies this, because if this was her goal, she would've accepted the dozens of confessions she got at her old school, something he forgot as the only company she has these days is Nodoka. She negates this statement by naming him as another person she hangs out with, and when he intends to tease her with this, she reminds him that she's still aware of his secret, though she admits she won't use it against him because he will most likely destroy his reputation by himself, making it worthless as a bargaining chip, and she starts to get attached to him. He appreciates this, though thinks this statement is weakened by what happened before.

Otoha wonders why he even paid attention to her, and he explains that this was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for both of them. Otoha begs him to keep this a secret, especially when he already does a poor job at hiding any of them, but he thinks they should complete this situation by including Imani, something Otoha agrees to, yet points out that this won't be possible since Imani and he don't have this kind of relationship. Sensei want to know what gave her that impression, and she figured it out due to Imani being in a similar situation as her, Imani's deteriorating emotional and mental state during his absence, and the fact that she happened to be around her when she was talking with Wakana about it.

Sensei wonders if she made spying on people her new hobby, and while Otoha denies this, she feels like she's drawn into personal matters of others as of late. She tries to tell him about another thing she ran into, but the world intervenes, and suddenly both are having dinner in a fast food joint with Otoha venting about Niki. Sensei wonders if he "blacked out" again, but when Otoha assures him that he wasn't acting unusual around her, he accepts that sudden time jumps are still a thing, though wishes they would just jump to the end of the day so he can go back to sleep.

Getting back to Niki, Sensei wonders why she started dating Rin when she was only interested in her, and Otoha explains that it was basically a failed attempt to bring herself back to reality by settling for a relationship that was actually achievable – Knowing that dating Niki will never happen, she tried to take her chance with Rin, and while she was a great partner, the relationship gave her nothing but boredom as well as cliched drama and interactions. He asks her what she wants from a relationship, and Otoha wants one that feels real and moderately exciting, but comes to the conclusion that dating just isn't for her.

She's frustrated by this since it means she can't make a single authentic and relatable song about love, unlike Niki who can do this so effortlessly while still being "real". Sensei wonders if this is why she tries to get close with Niki, which she admits, but when he tells her how certain relationships are the most enjoyable ones, she chastises him for clinging to his defeatist attitude instead of trying to improve his life, and demands that both of them work on themselves to become more than they currently are.

Sensei once again proclaims how much he likes her for being so compassionate towards him even though she hasn't figured herself out yet, but Otoha doesn't need his confirmations because this support goes both ways – She always wanted someone she could open up to about topics like this, but most people her age just wanted to date her, her parents weren't an option, and while a teacher would've been ideal for that role, she never had one she could rely on until she met him. Him being so unusual and casual with his students finally gave her someone she could see as a friend, though the moment is ruined when Sensei points out how she could've called him her brother again, but she intentionally avoided this to prevent him from teasing her more.

He tells her that he has some plans for her regarding this and then acts like their time together comes to an end, much to Otoha's annoyance.
